Kyla May – Who Am I?
Kyla May is married, with three daughters, two dogs and two cats. Home is the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia.
Kyla May started life with a graphic design degree from RMIT, Melbourne. Her career began as an art director in advertising. Kyla quickly made her mark, winning and being nominated for many national and international advertising and design awards. She then stretched her creative skills in the dot.com revolution, as a director of several global web-design studios.
Despite her success in the advertising industry, Kyla felt that she hadn’t “found herself.” So she took a chance, and left advertising, and pursued a business idea – a little greeting card range called “Flirt”. This became a HUGE overnight success, in fact, Australia’s No. 1 card range, achieving record sales, numerous awards and being one of Australia’s most recognised greeting card brands ever. At last Kyla May had “found herself.”
8 years experience in advertising and design paved the way for Kyla May to branch out into the world of licencing. Her initial success allowed Kyla to travel extensively to Japan, New York, Paris, London and LA for inspiration. Kyla May’s designs subsequently made their way onto many other products, such as stationary, backpacks, bags, gift and novelty items to name but a few. Next followed some time spent in New York creating animation, which then lead to a book series with Penguin Publishing USA.
And What Now?
Over the past few years Kyla has extended her talents to creating several book series and is now busily developing an animated TV Series. Stay tuned for releases of these amazingly, wonderful, creative little characters and their adventures.
